A journey of a million miles...

...begins with a single step.

Hello. My name is William Prescott. I'm a fledgling writing student at the University of Oklahoma. I started my Master of Professional Writing a mere month ago.

A common saying among teachers is that you do not really know something until you have taught it. (and based on my experiences in Teach For America, common sense is true... for once.)

I would like to attach an addendum to that idiom:

2. You do not really know something until you write about it.

Writing requires higher level thinking; you cannot skim or get the gist. It compels the writer to apply his or her knowlege, to analyze and to evaluate. In short, after writing about a topic --- you own that knowledge.

Here, I plan to share and document my evolution as a writer, a husband, a friend, and as a citizen. I hope this blog reaches others in meaningful ways but, honestly, this blog is for me.

For once, I am going to appreciate the journey instead of merely floating along at half speed. Thanks for reading.
